The Region
Alenquer
“Quinta do Conde” is situated 45 km up north of Lisbon, in Alenquer, a region where the wine tradition is centuries old, with beautiful and typical rural landscapes. This is one of the richest wine regions due to the different types of soils and climate.
The mild winters and the fresh summer nights are the perfect combination for the production of quality grapes. The soils are rich in clay and limestone from the Superior Jurassic period and several examples of fossils from that time have been found.
The vineyards are planted in gentle slopes, taking advantage of an excellent sun exposition and a climate slightly tempered by the nearby Atlantic Ocean, 25 km away from the estate. The sea breeze contributes to the production of wines with a pleasant acidity, very characteristic from the region.
The white and rosé wines are aromatic, revealing freshness and minerality. The reds are fruity and well-balanced, with smooth tannins and good concentration.
Over the past few years, the company has been replanting old vineyards and planting new ones, in order to get access to a larger grape diversity with both national and international grape varieties. This strategy is a key factor, providing more flexibility and creativity in the production of wines and allowing the company to adapt to the market trends.
From its portfolio of several red and white varieties, the following stand out:
Whites
Arinto, Fernão Pires e Sauvignon Blanc.
Reds
Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz e Syrah.
